The Purandar International Airport Project is progressing toward becoming one of the key infrastructure projects in Maharashtra. The land acquisition process is in its final stages, which is one of the most critical stages of the process of the airport construction. To improve access to the airport, planning for road and metro construction, along with passenger facilities, is underway.
Improved connectivity at Purandar Airport is one of the notable features. In this respect, feasibility studies for the construction of twin tunnels through Dive Ghat have already been initiated to enable the construction of a new road and metro link connecting the airport and Pune city. These tunnels are expected to make travel from Hadapsar much faster and improve access to the airport for passengers, businesses, and logistics companies.
Furthermore, the authorities are considering metro connectivity along Purandar, thus enhancing transport facilities in the area to the utmost.
Large-scale infrastructure projects often create a ripple effect across surrounding areas, and the Pune airport project is no exception. Better road networks, faster connectivity, and improved public transport generally encourage commercial activity, residential development, and industrial expansion. Businesses benefit from easier logistics, while residents gain improved access to employment hubs and essential services.
The airport is currently under construction after the signing of deals for about 1,101 hectares out of the total 1,216 hectares of land needed for the project, which spans villages like Vanpuri, Udachiwadi, Kumbharvalan, Ekhatpur, Pargaon, Munjawadi, and Khanwadi. The developmental milestone marks the ongoing advancement of this project and demonstrates the authority’s dedication to implementing an ambitious infrastructure development plan in the area surrounding Pune.
Although the airport will improve the regional air connectivity, the overall infrastructure is of primary importance too. Roads, metro routes, and tunnel projects are the real drivers of the region's economic growth, as they facilitate capital mobility and expand investment opportunities.
As work continues, the Purandar International Airport project is expected to reshape the region's infrastructure landscape. With enhanced connectivity at Purandar Airport, proposed Dive Ghat tunnels, and planned metro connectivity, the project has the potential to become a major driver of growth for Pune and the surrounding areas in the years ahead.
